No-Code Studio for Schools

IT administrators set global policies that apply to all No Code Studio apps: which data models staff can connect to, which user roles can publish apps, whether apps require IT review before going live, and how long inactive apps remain before automatic archival. Every app runs inside the OpenEduCat platform with the same role-based access controls, audit trails, backup schedules, and data retention policies as standard modules. IT can also disable or archive any app at any time. This is not shadow IT. It is governed self-service.

Yes. No Code Studio apps can read from and write to any data model in OpenEduCat, subject to the permissions IT configures. A student affairs app can pull student names and enrollment status directly from the Student Information System. A facilities app can reference room data from the timetable module. This means staff do not need to re-enter data that already exists in the platform, and reports built on custom apps reflect real-time institutional data.

No Code Studio apps are stored as configuration data, not custom code. When OpenEduCat upgrades, these configurations migrate automatically in most cases. For major version upgrades, our team runs a compatibility check on all custom apps before the upgrade proceeds. If any app needs adjustment, the changes are typically minor, updating a field reference or adjusting a view layout. We have never seen an upgrade that required rebuilding a No Code Studio app from scratch.

There is no hard limit on the number of apps. Institutions in our network have built anywhere from 5 to over 80 custom apps. The practical limit depends on your server resources and how much data the apps store. For most institutions with standard hosting, 50+ active apps run without any performance issues. We recommend starting with high-impact, high-frustration processes and expanding from there rather than trying to build everything at once.

The key difference is data integration. Google Forms, Airtable, Monday.com, and Trello are standalone tools. They cannot read your student records, pull course data, check enrollment status, or enforce your institutional access policies. Every form submission sits in a silo. No Code Studio apps live inside your ERP, connected to the same data your registrar, finance office, academic departments, and student affairs already use. That eliminates manual data transfer, prevents the duplication errors that come with copy-pasting between systems, reduces compliance risk, and keeps all institutional data under one governance framework.
