You define categories at the institutional or department level, for example, Homework 25%, Quizzes 15%, Midterm 30%, Final 30%. Each assignment, quiz, or exam is categorized at creation. The system calculates category averages and applies weights continuously as scores are entered. Different courses can use different category structures and weight distributions. A science course can weight lab work at 40% while a literature course weights essays at 50%, all within the same grading system.

Teachers can enter a manual override for any student's final grade. The system requires a documented reason for the override. Both the original calculated grade and the override are preserved in the record, so administrators and auditors can see exactly what was changed and why. Overrides do not alter the underlying assignment or exam scores. They apply only to the final reported grade for that course.

Parents log into a secure portal where they see their child's current grades organized by course, including category breakdowns, individual assignment scores, running averages, cumulative GPA, and class rank where applicable. Grades appear as soon as teachers enter them. There is no batch update or delayed sync. Parents can also view attendance records, teacher comments, upcoming assignment due dates, and progress trend charts from the same portal. You control which grade components are visible to parents and when, such as hiding grades until a grading period closes.

Yes. When configuring a grading category, you specify how many lowest scores to drop. If you set a Quizzes category to drop the 2 lowest scores out of 10 quizzes, the system automatically identifies the two weakest quiz grades and excludes them from the category average. This calculation updates in real time as new quiz scores are entered throughout the term. Students can see the effect of the drop policy on their running grade through the portal.

The gradebook is part of the same database as your student records, course registrations, exam results, and academic history. When final grades are submitted and the grading period is locked, those grades become part of the student's permanent academic record automatically. Transcript generation pulls directly from these grade records. There is no export/import step. Report cards pull grades, attendance, GPA, and teacher comments from the same database, so a report card for 3,000 students generates in minutes rather than requiring weeks of data assembly from multiple systems.
