Role-based views come pre-configured for common roles (registrar, dean, department chair, faculty, advisor) but each view can be adjusted by an administrator after deployment. Widgets can be added, removed, or reordered. Threshold values for alerts (such as the attendance percentage that triggers a warning) are configurable without code changes, through the system settings panel.

The dashboard reads directly from the live application database, not from a separate warehouse or a nightly export. Attendance records appear on the dashboard within minutes of being saved by faculty. Enrollment counts update as each transaction completes. The only delay is the database write latency of the underlying application, which is typically under 60 seconds for standard operations.

Role-based access controls are enforced at the database query level, not just the display level. A department chair's dashboard view queries only the records associated with their assigned department. Even if they navigate to a URL that belongs to another department's report, the system returns no records. It is not a matter of hiding data on screen; the query itself is scoped to their permitted records.

No additional infrastructure is required. The dashboard reads from the same database server that runs the rest of the application. There is no ETL pipeline, no data warehouse, and no scheduled export job to maintain. For institutions with more than 15,000 active users, a read-replica database configuration is recommended to avoid query load on the primary write server. This is a standard database configuration, not a custom component.

Base role configurations (registrar, dean, department chair, faculty, advisor) are set up during the standard implementation process, typically within the first two weeks of deployment. Custom threshold values (alert percentages, at-risk criteria) are configured in a guided settings session that takes 2–4 hours with an implementation consultant. Institutions that want additional custom views for non-standard roles should budget an additional 8–16 hours of configuration work.
